A Lot Can Happen in 6 Months

Since the last update, I’ve been to Tampa Florida, Djibouti Africa, Harrisburg Pennsylvania (for 3 hours), and Oahu, Hawaii. As you might could imagine, I am wholly sick and tired of flying. Also since the last update, I’ve bought a new laptop, built a new computer system via Newegg.com, and found out that I’ll be moving to Virginia in late March.

On the military front, the Air Force has given me an assignment to the Air Force Command and Control & Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Center (AFC2ISRC) and I’m looking forward to the job more than you can know. No more never ending communications security paperwork, inspections, paperwork, shredding, paperwork and paperwork. Back to my beloved racks upon racks of servers and routers and the constant sound of whirring cooling fans! I can’t wait.

On the finance front, my 5-year plan is coming along very good so far. I now owe very little on my car and it shouldn’t take more than 6 months to pay it off. My personal prediction for 2008 is that there is a pretty good possibility that we will enter a mild recession and housing prices will continue to fall all year. I would suggest that the best investments for 2008 will be the basics (Johnson & Johnson, Proctor and Gamble, Clorox, etc) and some sort of international index fund.

On the computer front, I’m going to be messing with WordPress as a possible replacement for this website. PHPNuke has been fun, but it has way too much stuff and features for what is essentially a blog. Plus the scottgeek copy of it is so heavily modified now, that it’s nearly impossible to upgrade to the latest version without breaking half of the modules. I also have built a new computer system based on an Intel quad-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a GeForce 8800 GT Video Card, and topped it off with a Samsung 22″ LCD Widescreen monitor. I’m currently playing Crysis, Medal of Honor: Airborne, and F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate.

And now, on the theory that you can find out a lot about someone by what books they have on their bookshelf and thought you might find it interesting, here is a picture of part of my bookshelf. I need another bookshelf.
